Gentrification

Gentrification, as defined by Merriam Websters is " the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle-class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents". While this is an accurate definition, what tends to happen as is with most definitions is that the pathos of the argument is not typically felt virtue of the fact that very few of the gentrified or those negatively affected by gentrification are able to give their narratives. Although the term gentrification is a relatively recent term in the grand scheme of social phenomena vocabulary, it has probably been going on since the beginning of time. This very phenomena is indicative of the thought that money can get you anywhere and that lack of an economic resource confines you to a very limited segment of living areas. While the city is booming economically in an increasing and expansive manner, those citizens who have been here in Washington, DC who cannot compete with the increase in tax base, housing market increase (financially), and overall living expense increase are forced out. This project was one of both a personal and informative process, which will one day contain interviews of the victims of gentrification. PEACE AND BLESSINGS, DON'T GENTRIFY
